National service is a noble experiment in academic expansion. It includes the
sprit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained
community interaction. It brings our academic institution close to society.
NSS was launched on 24 September 1969, the birth centenary year of the father of
nation Mahatma Gandhi. It falls under the jurisdiction of Ministry of youth
affairs and sports. Programme officer is responsible for the organization of NSS
Unit, implementation of NSS programme under the
supervision and direction of Principal of D. S. College.
In D. S. College there are two units and each unit consists of 100 NSS
volunteers, functioning under the supervision of programme officers Dr. Manju
Giri and Dr. Harindra Singh. NSS volunteer must be the first and second ear
degree class students.
NSS is a two year programme. Under regular programme NSS volunteers works with
village, slums and voluntary agencies to complete 120 hours in each year.
Special camping programme is an another
integral part of National Service Scheme. It has special appeal to the youth as
it provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective
experience sharing and constant interaction with community.
The motto or watchword of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” This reflect the essence of
domocrative living and underlines that the welfare of an individual is
ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole.
